First Launch: August 24th, 1995 MSN is short for MicroSoft Network. It's like Yahoo! and big corporation sites. You have your news, you have ways on signing into online messengers and checking your mail. They're your all-in-one sites for you to stay up to date and to keep in contact with your friends or family. MSN used to have two particular and unique services. MSN Groups, and MSN Chats. MSN Groups was the earliest stages of similar sites like NING. You had your own group, member lists, custom pages, codes you could use, and your own chat room within them. MSN Chat, used to be a free service to all, and was available until early 2004 when it was turned into subscription. $20 a year to use. Both MSN Groups and MSN Chat have now vanished. MSN Chat was closed on October 16th, 2006 while MSN Groups has closed on February 21st, 2009. This was all due to the rise of Windows Live services, which was when MSN decided that Windows Live was gaining more popularity than their previous communication services.
